The end of term has never been so sweet. We are escaping cold and grey Foshan and head for islands. We plan our trip, visit lovely Hong Kong again and eat the best pasteis de nata.
Okey Dokey, on the road again. It was a long day yesterday and a short night. We thought the last week at work would be easy. I only watched films with my kids and worked on the new blog. But then the meeting came and reports, overviews and summaries came with it. I really don't mind a lot of work. What I hate is a lot of unexpected complicated work I don't see a sense of.
A last minute tutoring offer turned up so both me and Jack worked the whole Saturday. It was my first time tutoring and it was...rewarding? Well, I survived 5 kids of all different ages and sizes, I entertained them and hopefully thought them something new? Both of us got back home absolutely knackered. Our non-present flatmate's friend turned up at about 10pm she's going to stay in our flat for a couple of days before her and Beth (our flatmate) go travelling together.
Packing itself was complicated as we needed to get ready for hot Philippines and cold Japan. The only time I had to pack like this before was last June while going to Italy for a week and then to Scotland for a month. We're going to spend 3 weeks in the Philippines. We fly to Cebu, then want to see the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers in Bohol. After that we'll hopefully manage some cool tropical islands (yeah, especially after last year tropical island disaster).
I'm really excited about going to Siquijor - island which name I cannot pronounce and which is apparently connected with dark magic and mystical practises. Traditional non-Christian healers still live in the mountainous centre of the island. I have no idea how to get to see them without paying for healing procedure but it really does interest me. I know basically nothing about our plans in Japan. We're going to stay in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara but I left pretty much all the planning up to Jack. It's super exciting not to know what to expect.
So it will be an island hopping adventure. We're starting in Hong Kong. We're also cheating in Hong Kong because we stay in Kawloon which is rather penisula. But the airport is on an island so that could count...? The Philippines is an archipelago so that's quite clear. Actually, the archipelago consists of more than 7,000 islands. No blog post or newspaper article forget to mention that so I can't either. In Japan, we'll be limited just to Honshu but it's still an island.
Now, we're leaving lovely Hong Kong. God, I do love the city! Probably not enough to move in here for good but it's been my third time here and there's always something new and cool. People speak English! Food is just excellent with a massive choice from international cuisine and Cantonese dishes. We also had the best pasteis de nata so far. Don't even ask me where. It was a tiny little bakery of a bizarre name and on a street which name I would never remember. The famous Hong Kong skyline was more majestic than ever. This morning we saw the the sunrise in the Harbour (well, just from the airport bus) as we drove to Lantau island. It was so beautiful! I'm almost sorry leaving for the Philippines now.
